Our First Fishing Summer Camp

Post by Yannick Loranger »

After four days at Dow's Lake, it was hard to believe today that some of these 11 to 13 year olds had never fished before Monday. This last week has probably been the most rewarding experience I've had since I started guiding 4 years ago. Teaching these kids everything from spooling a spinning reel to handling fish and then watching them put it all into action has been just a great experience. And check out the walleye Sophia caught today!!!! Here are some photos from the cap off to the camp; a day on the boats.

Way to go Yan. I'm sure you've made some lifelong fishermen there. Congrats.

Wow Yan! That is terrific on a few levels!!

The obvious fact that you are creating little fishers that will likely turn into adult fishers is awesome... BUT... that is great business idea!! I don't know if you saw that somewhere else first or you just came up with it, but whatever the case, it is an amazing idea!!

Great alternative to the traditional summer camps for parents and great business idea for you!!

(I hope you don't mind that I am sticky-ing this thread for a week to give it the exposure it deserves!)

After taking over Fishing Just for Kids, I was approached by Dovercourt Rec Centre to run a summer camp. It was something I had been contemplating for a while, but with the Centre taking care of all the administrative stuff, it was a no brainer. Thanks for the kind words guys. It was the most satisfying experience I've had since I started guiding. I'm so proud of what Dovercourt and I have accomplished with this.

Sweet Uncle Walter!
I really find the most memorable fishing is bringing a bunch of kids and watching them get right into it.
Man I wish I was closer to have my kids in on that.
I'd be all over it like a fat kid on smarties. *advanced apologies to any offended fat kids*

Wow that is awesome Yannick!! Nothing beats the excitement of kids when they are fishing. They are our future anglers. One of my sons is away for two weeks volunteering at a youth camp teaching youngsters how to fish and mentoring them along a good path. It is a great time for fishing. lol
