Info for petit lac des cedres?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Info for petit lac des cedres?

Post by mblaney »

My family has been invited to a cottage on Petit lac des Cedres near Messines. I am looking for any information to help with boat launching and lake depth info, etc

Does anyone have bathymetric information for this lake? I am mostly concerned about shoals... Is there access to Big Cedar?

I know there is a public launch on the west side (we will be on the east side) - is there anywhere else to launch? I have a 19' I/O

I will probably buy a license and try for some lakers but most of our time will be taking kids for tubing, etc.

Any info would be great!

Cheers,
Mike

I was there only once back in 1991. (give or take a year).
It is one of the best small mouth lakes I have fished out of a canoe.
There is access to the Grand Lac des Cèdres but you will have to proceed with extreme caution.
The top water bite was awesome on both lakes. Just about every overhanging tree held a Bass.
Can't comment on the lakers.
I do remember that there were some shoals but we never made it around the whole lake.
I would definitely purchase a Barometric chart if I were to go back.

You can see it a bit here. Too small a lake to have free barometric info online.
This site give a bit of a preview

Keep in mind that the shoals may not all be marked on the map. I ran into that problem on the bigger lake, but I've never been on the smaller one.

bradford2, that is a big help! Thank you!

I am not really into bass fishing, trout is my game. Our hosts have a 14'r with a 15; apparently my boat is way too big to cross into the bigger cedar lake. Latest report is that beavers are messing up the creek joining the two lakes, you have to drag a canoe over some crap. My boat draft is around 20" so no creek for me! I will stop and get a chart somewhere. Looks like trout fishing will be a couple of hundred feet off the end of their dock 8)
