I have been able to locate some "safe" ice the past few days and put a smack down on the jumbo perch, big gills,crappies and bonus this year the largies!
been pretty simple really, find green weed edges and fish a small tungsten jig with some sort of plastic and its game on!
have been lucky enough to get out between 3-4 hours a day with the average day around 35-40 fish
today was a blast where i had 5 largies within 10 minutes!

was also able to get out to a new trout lake to me and try for a couple brooks
success!!


Be careful out there guys! everywhere i have been to check has been between 4--7 inches of ice but the bigger bodies of water are still a whiles out yet

Have the next month off straight, somethings telling me im going to get some serious fishing time in on the ice

Good start for sure. With all the snow now don't think we'll be getting the truck back into those trout lakes anymore for rest of winter. Bring on the big water....or should I say ice.

A good 4x4 and some good tires and your golden do i have to come show you how its done laddy lol

Lol Dano a 4x4 and good tires will only get you so far. It's on thing when your fishing your lakes right off the road and you get stuck but it ain't no fun getting stuck 10km back into the bush in middle of winter! P.s the new tires are the bees knees, the cats meow!

Wonder if you fished for those specks at the same lake I went to Friday? Was shocked to see two holes punched through the ice that looked to be a few days old. I'm always the first to drill holes every season I was pee pee to see someone beat me to it this year!!!!

Had some success also, landed two and lost two which I haven't had happen in years, still hearing about it from my buddy!

Troutskii, we weren't even the first ones there. There were 4 wheeler tracks in and a few holes already. Your a little late going in dec. 19 expecting to be the first one there. I was out on dec. 6th for the first time at another lake and there was already someone there testing the ice, didn't look like they were fishing though. Must have felt good to be back on the ice and landing some fish though eh!
