Shirley's Bay Derby 2015

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Good luck with this Canam. If I wasnt in the middle of the bush for a weekend ice fishing trip I would be there. Good fun, good prizes and good people. Try to make it out to this one folks. Canam has put a lot of work into it and I would love to see it as successfull.

I am also going to make a prediction that a 7.4lbs walleye wins the derby this year!!

Where is the access to Shirley's Bay?

Any on shore parking - insurance doesn't cover work vehicles that end up through the ice on weekends. :( funney that?

Your not going anywhere off the plowed road without 4wd now most places, can park at the end of the plowed road and hoof the rest or Just in the lot if its already packed.

And yes multiple lots on shore to park in, Access is @ the end of Rifle road off carling.

Michael, not a chance in hell of going through. Way too much ice. You could drive a loaded transport truck out there now.

Cheers

True say Smitty, But With the chance that a good crowd gets out on the ice, all with vehicles and cant spread out, decent chance of getting some top-water . That being said If we could spread them out/had less snow it would be ok but not every vehicle and driver will have the same capability.

Tight Lines and Good Luck to anyone Participating Tomorrow.

Big shout out to Canam04 for hosting a great derby yesterday. ...I might not have got the biggest fish but the 50/50 made up for it.
Good thing it was yesterday and not today. ...your plowed road is now waist deep in powder...feel for the guy that parked his civic out there for the night...he was socked in pretty this afternoon when I went by.

Thanks again for a great derby and to all the sponsors.

Wish I could have made it out, but I had kid-sitting duties which involved driving all over hell's half acre it seemed!

Would love to see some posted results!

Thanks Yakster,

Yes it was a great day and it sounded like everyone enjoyed themselves. I am glad everyone went home with something and some people several items. The weather was perfect. In regards to results well here it is. No one caught a pike so all three cash prizes were given based on a draw from all participants. The largest perch was 11.7 ounces and the biggest walleye was 1 lb. I would also like to thank John Deere who provided a remote control tractor for a child's prize, Ziebarth Electrical, Chubb Edwards and almontefisher fisher (FH user). Without these sponsors I wouldn't of been able to send everyone home with a prize. I hope to build on my sponsors as the years go on and hopefully turn this derby into something big. Thanks to all those who came out and I hope to see you out there again next year.

Cheers

Good job on the derby Can and I am glad everyone was able to walk away with a prize. To keep things fair though the prizes I donated were all gathered from the amazing people here on the board so they are the ones who deserve the thank you. They also were more than ok keeping their great jesture silent and not requiring the praise that they so deserved. Anyway I wish I could have made it out but I was freezing my arse off in Ompah not catching a single fish all weekend!!
