I'm happy to see this thread got lots of replies,
originally we were talking about the Rideau River, 3 hours to fish only one in the box what do you do?

But it got too specific so the go to setup when things hit the fan works :handgestures-thumbupright:

Lure -#1 Choice would be a 1/2 ounce Jig with a Strike king rage craw.
If I got to bring two more it would be a a topwater frog and a swim bait.

Rod - 7' MH Quantum Smoke
Reel - 7.1:1 Quantum MG tour
Line - 50 # Power Pro braid

^ It's my new favorite setup, 2014's pigs were all caught on that setup, throwing those lures.

What I have come to realize from this post is that I sure can fish pretty good but I dont have a balls clue what equipment is out there and what situations to use it in. Man I sort of feel a little dumb now...Not so SMRT as I thought I was. Mine is a black rod with red thread around it, has about 7-8 eyelets and is around 1 ft taller than me so I guess a 7ft rod, weight is around the same as a beer can half full and lure of choice is a green fleck wacky rig worm about 5-6". See I do know what a wacky rig is!! lol. Now for reel it would be the one that squeeks the least and always a spinning as bait casters and me have this agreement that if I dont use them they wont birds nest on me!!.. So to finish this off you guys rock with gear knowledge. I rock with confidence!! lol......

Well it would change which would be my bait of choice, so it matters

Rod: 6'6 MH-F - Avid Pearl - St. Croix
Reel: Jury is still out because I just got my first high-quality reel for Christmas, but for now I'll say my first BC which is the Daiwa Laguna100HL 6.3.1
Line: PP 50w
Bait: Rideau River: 4" TriggerX Hot pink worm (these ones last the longest and have a great weight to them) Texas rigged on a Fin-Tech Titleshot "shorty" jig / Big Rideau: Med sized spinnerbait for the same reasons Lape0019 gave, the many different was to use it in BRs less-weedy enviro.

Rod - Loomis NRX 893C 7'5" - Med-Hvy Ex-Fast (The DX743 will hate me for saying this)
Reel - Megabass IS79 UC 7.9 (Replacing my MGX 7.9)
Line - 12 lb fluorocarbon (at first sign of overrun, I'll go with 14lbs mono)
Lure - 4" green/red flake tube texas rigged with 3/16 bullet weight (A 7" Red shad worm is a close contender)
The NRX893 is magical isn't it? Such a versatile rod! I use mine mainly for fishing flukes.
The DX743, while it is a nice rod there is no comparison between the two.
:)

Rideau (River, or Lakes)...

Rod: DX745
Reel: Curado 201E7 (7:1 ratio)
Line: 55# Daiwa Samurai Braid
Lure: 3/4oz black/blue jig, Paca Chunk Sr. in Flippin' Brown.

That's is a great combo and was one for I was fighting with myself on picking. I have a Core 100MGFV sitting on mine for the same purpose.

I picked the 734 with the 17lb mono because I think if I could use more than the one lure, I would be able to pitch a lighter jig with it as well.

5'6" Berkley Lightning Rod

Simano Stradic 1000 (spinning reel)

6 lb fluorocarbon

1/8 oz or MAYBE 3/16 oz black-headed jig with 3" black Power Grub

That covers about 75% of all my fresh-water fishing except panfish. And no, I do not fish slop.

If i was using multiple lures the 734 would be my pick.

I am not sponsored and out of the people who responded, I think there are only two who are.

i almost own all Dobyns rods and know a lot about them, but am not sponsored.
Don't get me wrong, I would love to be on pro staff somewhere but at this time, I am not affiliated with anyone.
