Had I known this was specific to the Rideau River I would have selected a Marine Dredging Barge. :|

Oh I certainly do know. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, I find it BORING. I like finesse presentations and seem to do at least as well as my buddies that pound the slop.

I dont see a reason to remove your post Christian. I am fairly certain most already know you hold a Pro Staff Position with Dobyns.

Nothing wrong with being sponsored, takes a lot of work, some people don't get it but it really is like having a second job..
Doing shows, knowing your product, actually convincing the potential sponsor that you are worth their time and investment.

We're getting off topic WallyBoss, make your own thread if you want to know all the in's and outs

I like the "New fishhawk" it's lighter and less personal.
I knew he was joking, all in good fun.

Rod - Loomis NRX 893C 7'5" - Med-Hvy Ex-Fast (The DX743 will hate me for saying this)
Reel - Megabass IS79 UC 7.9 (Replacing my MGX 7.9)
Line - 12 lb fluorocarbon (at first sign of overrun, I'll go with 14lbs mono)
Lure - 4" green/red flake tube texas rigged with 3/16 bullet weight (A 7" Red shad worm is a close contender)
The NRX893 is magical isn't it? Such a versatile rod! I use mine mainly for fishing flukes.
The DX743, while it is a nice rod there is no comparison between the two.
:)
I haven't used the 893 yet. It will be mainly for bottom contact techniques.
I almost sold my DX743. Would have been a grave mistake.
Two very different rods altogether but both are equally versatile rods.

Not everyone can read sign language.

Now, back to the thread subject so as not to be accused of highjacking. :D :D

If I was fishing the Big Rideau:
Rod - Dobyns 635CB
Reel - Megabass Zonda 6.8
Line - 10lbs mono
Lure - Megabass 110 (perch)

Given that the intention was the Rideau River, my most versatile setup given one rod, reel and line would be:

Rod: GLoomis GLX 893 JWR

This rod is 7'5" Medium-Heavy Extra-Fast Jig & Worm Rod. I have thrown frogs, swimbaits, spinnerbaits, carolina rigs, jigs, creatures and all sorts of texas-rigged plastics on this rod. The extra-fast tip is extremely sensitive when recognizing bites but the rod has great backbone and length to get outta all sorts of trouble.

Reel: Shimano Curado 200I 6.3:1

When this reel was released last year I picked one up at Paddletales and since have accumulated quite a few more .. by far the best value for a reel IMO. It's wide spool and release make for extremely smooth long casts and the control that it offers when setting the braking makes casting just about anything a pleasure.

Line: Either 14 lb Sunline Sniper Flourocarbon or 15 lb Seagar Invisx Flourocarbon ... still working out which I like better.

A couple of years ago I might have gone with braid but now I only use braid on my dedicated frog rod and for the dirtiest of flipping/pitching.

Lure: Everything :D

As I was reading over everyone's posts, for those people I know, I could picture everyone with the rod that they specified ... everyone that is, except StarTzar .. either you've become one of Ed's (toobinator's) minions or you're trying to dupe everyone into thinking that you'd have anything other than a crankbait rod in your hands :o :o :o :o ... PMac would be disappointed

back to StarTzar.......

.........that Megabass 110 looks awesome (I just googled it). Is there a local supplier, or is that pretty much a mail order proposition like the Fin-S minnows and such?
