QC Resident Fishing Permit Just Went Up By Almost 50%

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

QC Resident Fishing Permit Just Went Up By Almost 50%

Post by cprince »

A member posted on his FB page... and I choked on my coffee!

Here is the link http://www.mffp.gouv.qc.ca/faune/chasse ... .jsp#peche
(Only in French at this point, the English one is still showing on 2014-2015 and we are into the 2015 - 2016 period.)

Short version:

Residents go from:
$20.96 in 2014 - 2015
to
$29.84 in 2015 - 2016

We can get a C&R for 12,28 $. But this is a crazy increase. Anyone know why? (Don't start with poutine prices going up or paying Carey Price's salary comment either you fruit cakes!)

BTW Non residents go from:
$67.55
To
$76.84

And a C&R is $41.01

BIN LA! VOYONDON!!!!

What is a C&R license? That permit you just to fish without keeping any?

Near $80 for a license is a cash grab IMHO.

Wow! That is a staggering increase. Yet it is still cheaper than ON non resident sport fishing fee.

Kerrazy ???

The Quebec(Canadian) resident fishing license for Ontario is $55.00 It's the Non-Canadian resident that the price is higher.

The longer story about this all is the MNR in QC is very poorly funded and/or budgeted. They are running deficits year in and year out. I would imagine it is similar to many provincial gov departments where the Feds download to the Provs and the provs tell them this is the money we will give you... make due.

After that, funding is up'ed only if it makes political sense. (Translation; Will it get them votes to take money from The OCD Smoking Monkey studies department and give it to The Painting with Body Parts arts department.)

This amounts to a tax hike.

I just did my income tax. I pay every year to the QC gov. Roads still suck. Hospital wait times are worse than ever. Schools still suck money out of my wallet. Cops still wearing camo?

In over 20 years of fishing the Outaouais 150 to 200 times a year, I have seen MNR on the water a total of 4 times... and poachers night lines 100s of times.

I don't mind paying more, to an extent, if they are doing something with the money beyond shutting out the public from boat ramps effectively privatizing the lakes.
My $ is probably going to MTL or Quebec City... or helping stock trout in a lake no one can get to... or have some egg head tell me I can't ice fish a lake for des blancs because there are laker in it.

Take it like a man and bend over like a girl.. tax payers credo.

It's the same in Ontario. Money collected, mis-spent, and then demand more. The license fees here were always supposed to go into a special account to fund sportmans projects and enforcement... now...
https://www.ontario.ca/faq/2-service-fe ... g-products
...2$ added on to each tag, license, card etc... For what? To cover the cost of managing the fee collection?! Really? I mean...Really?
For an average Joe like myself that adds up to at least an additional 14 or 16$ per year collected. And there is no way that anyone can convince me that more than a nickel of that get re-invested into our resources.
Someone was telling me that the Ontario Govt decided to take away the 'free' fishing license for those over 65... I haven't found that information... but I wouldn't doubt it is in the works.
Alot of people will say, it's only a few dollars, and it goes back into conservation. They have aleady drank the red Kool-Aid. :D

Apparently, in zone 10, 14 Wardens retired or left in 2014/2015, there wasn`t enough money to replace them.

I also read that this increase on hunting and fishing licenses will add 5 million and change into the coffers.

I don`t mind an increase, but there has to be some incentives attached. Hunting seasons in Quebec are way out of whack with the rest of the country.

Fishing seasons don`t seem too bad, but again, some common ground has to be reached here in the means of extended seasons, or different opportunities.
