Not a Brown but an ...

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Not a Brown but an ...

Post by EagleEyesFlash »

There's been some impressive brown trout posted here lately, very nice to see.
In Ontario all Brown trout in the provincial hatchery
system are of Ganaraska strain FYI.
I have often started the softwater season pursing browns in the eastern basin of Lake O
over the decades. Spyman and I hit the "Banks" yesterday in our Hobies.
We had to launch from a new spot as drifting ice had plugged the bay.

Image

We trolled along the banks and it didn't look promising with the water cold with ice.
Decide to turn back and during the turn one of my rods fire. Fish-on !
Strong fish, see a burp and think it's a good laker, but as I got it closer it fought stronger
and started jumping and almost landed in buddies yak.

Finally land it and it's not a brown but an Atlantic Salmon !
My first Atlantic and from a yak too . :D
Image

I ripped it's lip using lippers to get a board pic. I knew it was legal size before using the lippers
but will never use lippers on an Atlantic again. So sadly kept it, but will be a good eat.

Image

Caught it with that Shimano Convergence Worm and Jig rod I won from the F.H. Virtal Derby, paired with a daiwa tatula reel.
You know standard salmon gear ;) . Thanks again Peter, RJ and Ed. Can't think of a better way to break in
a new rod.

I had read an article in a local paper about some bird watchers going to Presqu'ile PP to watch birds and it mentioned
'Longtail " ducks. What the heck are longtail ducks... maybe Old S.....

Image

No browns that trip, but not complaining. :D :D :D

Nice fish!! Too bad about the Boga grip ripping it's lips, I really think they should outlaw those things. Looks like fun, congrats on the successful outing! Beautiful fish

Wicked Brent! Quite a unique report in different ways this one is. Atlantics from Yaks in ice flows is NOT something you see everyday... let alone ever. Well done! :D

Beauty atlantic right there! And don't feel bad, that's why they stock em so people can catch and keep em.

As for the longtail duck, that's an oldsquaw in your picture.
I got 99 problems but a fish ain't one...

Now that is something I will probably never see again. Well done EEF. As for the rod that caught it..well that is a given. Before I was given the gear the guys did a special voodoo ritual around it with worms, frogs and I think it was a flashlight but not sure why that was used. Anyway they gauranteed it would catch one fish so I guess that is it for the rod. lol.

Again good work and in the Yak too...even better
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.
