Muskrat Report (video)
We made a trip up to Cobden for our maiden voyage of the season and what a beautiful day it was
on the water. The fishing was a little slow but we did manage to go 2 for 5 with one decent fish
weighing 9.3lb, seen a half dozen other boats out there which was surprising but I would imagine most guys went to Quinte for the opener.
We launched the boat shortly before 6am and headed out from the launch to the first section of the lake that had deep water, i,ve only fished this lake
once before and don't know it to well. I set up the first rigger 27ft down over 100ft and started setting up the second rigger and bam it goes off, I grabbed the
rod and it was pounding pretty good and handed it to my buddy which was a mistake we got slack in the line and lost it. We went the next two and a half hours with out a hit
but at 8:40 we had our second hit which we landed. The water temp was 46f when we got out there but by nine it hit 50f and the fish turned on. We found an active school and
shortened up our troll which paid off. Here is a video and a few pics.

Have not trolled that lake since 2010 I don't think... Many know the lakers for size is better than anywhere around here really, but it can be tough for numbers on the softwater Chad, so ya did quite well for a first trip on both accounts.

Love the excitement in the video. One of my favorite lakes to fish....but sadly, likely the worst tasting lakers in ON in my opinion.
Nice work with the spin doc set up!

Re: Muskrat Report (video)
Thanks for the comments boys
and he said he only heard of one caught since ice out.
He took it home to his wife and three kids and they ate it so it didn't go to waste. Myself I don't eat or keep lakers more of a walleye fan.
That yellow with red spin doctor has always been deadly, caught a 16lb laker on it last spring, I only just put it on 10 minutes before we caught the big one.
Talked to an old lad we trolled by and he told us he had fished all week and hadn't caught a fish yetMoosebunk wrote:Have not trolled that lake since 2010 I don't think... The big one was caught by my buddy Dan who had never been trout fishing before, not a bad fish for his first one.Markus wrote:Love the excitement in the video. One of my favorite lakes to fish....but sadly, likely the worst tasting lakers in ON in my opinion.

I love lake trout....especially from the small inland lakes in SE ON. The muskrat ones seem to have a bland taste to them and dont "pop" in flavour like say a brook trout. I think it's due to their diet of smelts in that lake. Still good eating though!

Dan's wife and kids loved it, him not so much. Normally we would release a fish that size but it was Dan's firstMarkus wrote:I love lake trout....especially from the small inland lakes in SE ON.
