Erie Perch

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Erie Perch

Post by Markus »

One of my favorite annual spring outings is with my good buddy Rich down on Lake Erie. It's 100% a meat run and the perch fillets are a big part of our summer cook up plans.

We launched around 7:30am and after a short run a bit of sonar scouting, we found them and went to work filling 2 limits. We had what we wanted by 10:30.

Avg size was around 11IN's and there was some real piggies mixed in as well. The lake was supposed to be a blow, but it stayed glass calm all morning. We used minnows on a drop shot rig.

It took a little knife work to complete the day, but with the sunny beautiful weather, it was a pleasure to pull up a chair at the cleaning table and get them all cleaned up and bagged. I'll remain married for another year now that I have my wifes perch supply secured.

What a haul. Gotta keep the wife happy and if that means you have to go out a fish then so be it!

Happy wife...Happy life...

Speaking of eating fish I find the perch in my home lake (Mississippi)

full of grubs, probably because it averages 10'. I would imagine you don't have that

problem on Erie.

no....never any parasites in them. I have seen it like you've described in a lot of the SE inland lakes.

Nice to see a report from other areas of Canada!

How hard is it to clean a perch? On par with a walleye? Trout?

Any food porn?

Nice cooler of perch! I'm originally from the Windsor area, and every time I go home to visit my brother he threatens to take me and the kids out to get perch. Unfortunately, it always seems to be too windy, or the perch aren't biting or something. Personally, I just don't think he knows where they are, or how to catch them ;)
