After closer inspection, we noticed a more forky tail and we were talking about how green it was.

All signs point to brook trout: red spots with blue halos, and a slight fork in the tail like that is normal for a brookie. As for the greenish colour, different lakes often have slightly different coloured specks.

Hard to say when there smaller. If your fishing a speck lake, it's safe to say that is a brookie. Nice one too!
