Trip to Lake Champlain
Trip to Lake Champlain
Last weekend 14 of us, many of them Fish-Hawk members, took a drive down to Ticonderoga, NY, to fish the Early Catch & Release season on Lake Champlain for three days (Fri-Sun). The weather was fantastic all three days and the fishing definitely had its moments for every boat. We took up most of the motel portion of the hotel/motel so dining at the hotel and then going back to the motel made it seem like we were going back to our own little world. Sitting outside our rooms at night consuming our favorite beverages talking about the day's fishing, the boats, the gear, what was new, what was working, joking about the days events created a wonderful atmosphere that certainly added to the experience.
I fished with Corey G and we managed to figure a few things out and boat some good fish including a huge drum, and largies weighing 6-1, 5-8, 5-0, and at least six four lbs.
All in all, a fantastic weekend was enjoyed by all.
I'm going to try to include some pics here so bear with me as this is my first time.
This was the first couple of fish on Friday .. things were starting to take shape
Then Corey got into the action ...
All of a sudden, all "you know what" breaks loose when Corey got into this drum with a crankbait rod ... it was on!!
Saturday was our most productive day as we started to dial it in .. Corey lands a good one ..
.. and then there was a stretch of about 15 to twenty minutes where these two g-g-g-giants showed up (6-1 and 5-8)
Sunday was a shorter day but by far our most productive numbers wise but still managed a few bigguns including this nickel by Corey
There was one stretch on Sunday fishing just off a point that came out under the water for a bit, were I am pretty sure, for about 14 or 15 casts, Corey caught one every other cast .. no real size to speak of but just a lot of fun!! That crankbait was some beat up!
Can't wait for next year or possibly a day trip to the north end of the lake later in the month
Hopefully this post turns out and I got the pics in the right order .. thanks RJ for the assist!

Awesome report Zeke! I will have some photos to add tonite. Not as impressive as yours, but hey, we all can't be swingin' in six pounders
Re: Trip to Lake Champlain
One of the reasons I started the thread was so that others that were on the trip could post their pictures and we could maybe put together a collage that might be used to attract others for next year's trip as I know there were a few on the fence this year.Oneeleven wrote:Awesome report Zeke! Just from the pics I have seen on FB already, I am quite confident in saying I am going next year. My wife was surprised that I didn't go this year and said I should have went when I showed her Shawns pics.
I will be listening to her next year!
Great pics Zeke. Looking forward to seeing the others.

Re: Trip to Lake Champlain
This was my first trip to Champlain
it was Awesome!!
Took this shot the night before.
First Fish in the boat, it had a Lamprey attached to it, this was a first for me it was about 18" long..
Our water was between 43-48*F in clear water and between 49-55*F in the muddier water.
You could see the schools of Bass coming up and sunning.
Once you got them to bite it was ON!!
The Phoenix Score board :
Biggest Large Mouth Bass: 4.01#
Biggest Small Mouth Bass:4.09#
Lake trout: 9.17# Lake trout? OH YESS
Biggest Drum: 15.32
I was fortunate to have my cousin come with me on this trip, it was a first for us and we had a blast!
He shook for a solid hour after catching that Drum^ 15+ Pounds.. I still can't get over how big it was.
This was the beach right next to our Motel.
Can't wait until next year!!

What boat were you fishing out of Andrew? That doesn't look like the Stratos.

Just the boys. Fishing. Pints. Sounds like good times...
If you're looking for another boat to join your crew next year, keep me in mind. My buddy and I would definitely be interested.
