Newbie heading out on the Big Rideau this weekend for some trout, no riggers yet so jigging it will be. (Lookin to buy used riggers) Any pointers would be appreciated, not afraid to research which is what I'm doing but a little help goes a long way as well !!

Better hope the wind is down for jigging or it can be hard to sit on structure. There are other methods you can use to get deeper like a three-way rig, pink lady, dipsy diver, fish seeker, or even inline bead chain trolling weights. Good luck out there.

Out twice last week solo the bite was solid but couldn't bang one over 5. Combined 8 hours did pick up 16 small fish though. One day warm and sunny the next cloudier, windy and cool. Warm and sunny was better. Fished clusters of hooks mostly, as solitary fish weren't overly playful. No cat and mouse to the lakers at all they wanted it on bottom, vertical and bouncing short and hard. My own 1-oz. hand-tied bucktails were lethal. Nothing was caught below 50fow I don't think... but that can all change day-to-day.

Out twice too in the big wind Ardie Argh .
Landed 3 trolling and 6 jigging, missed a few.
In a kayak , so may as well troll between jigging spots.
3/4 oz Kastmaster my main weapon and getting the bigger ones mid depth.
Don't be afraid to work it hard, and often get hits while reeling up.







Don't need gang trolls nor riggers trolling too at this time of year .

Nice fish. Too windy to jig so trolling has been my deal past two weekends. I should have tried jigging anyhow.

Anyhow, downriggers were firing at 70 ft - last couple weekend if anyone wants a place to start. Lots of hooks @ 40, 50 in 100+ FoW but they wouldn't touch me, probably too imprecise with wind approach. Bait balls forming in a few places but fish seem well fed on those. Wind resulted in multiple chaotic scenes as it blows you too close to stuff you're not supposed to be too close to

Fish hit @70 in 80, 90, up to 120 FoW ... west side of narrows, towards Murphys point PP. Blue / Silver spoon... no gang troll.

Jigging was hot today in as little as 45 fow. Booyah. That's fun for clients!
