Fishing Report #2 a.k.a The Ottawa R

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fishing Report #2 a.k.a The Ottawa R

Post by NorthernGuy »

Hi everybody!

A short and sweet report for my second one! So, obviously, as the title says, we went on the Ottawa River again launching in the Plantagenet park (Nation River) & headed out on the big Ottawa river! I read quiet a bit the other day so we applied a couple things I liked! We went into some bays. Ended up fishing from around 8AM till 4 PM non stop. It was one of the windiest days I have ever seen on the water BEING on the water haha. Big waves & hard to keep up the boat were you want it ESPECIALLY when you find out that for the past 2 days your battery for the electric motor up front has been recharging at the 6V 2 amp setting by mistake. Trust me, this absolutely didn't recharge my battery a bit! (lesson learned!)

I am proud to say today was our most successful day on the Ottawa River we have ever spent... now... dont laugh people. drum roll please.... We caught TWO fish hahahahaha. Gosh, this is almost embarrassing haha, but damn it felt good! I wont take the credit & I can admit that out of the 2, I didn't get any so obviously my girlfriend got the 2. One very nice walleye 19'' long very fat (didn't weight it) & one pike about 25'' long. We released both since we don't like pike & walleye wasn't in slot size being in zone 12...

Both were caught on the lure that I hate the most but seem to be soooo popular down here. A black spinnerbait! I guess Ill have to budge & start using those!

So!? what was it like on the water for you guys today!?!?

Thanks for reading & laughing with me & all your advice!

What color and size of the spinner should be used? What target fish for this rigging? Thanks.

You mentioned you launched at Plantagenet so if you caught the walleye in the S. Nation river I believe you were actually in Zone 18 so those rules would apply as far as allowable size is concerned. I'm not really sure where the line is between zones 18 and 12 but I presume it's very near where the S Nation enters the Ottawa R.

Hi Mike! I was actually on the Ottawa in one of the many bays... I find it hard as well to define the exact line... but we were for sure in zone 12... Thanks though!
