So how was your opener?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

So how was your opener?

Post by RJ »

How'd yas make out? I can tell you this year like no other year there was a buzz in the air about Bass season opening. Most folks I bumped into all week long we're talking about this weekend. It's great to see such excitement about fishing on all fronts!

Birdee and I headed out for 3 hours in the afternoon yesterday. The lake was loaded with boats(great to see)! As a bonus the fish were snarly and shallow, always fun to flip shallow junk for Largies. We left at 6 to avoid the snake show at the ramp that was going to ensue.

Birdee with our two best on the aft. Great to feel that thunk on the jig again!

Nice Largies!

I had a great day - beautiful weather, nice cool water and some good fighting smallies!

Awesome RJ,
Looks like you had a good one too! I had a 'guys' weekend at the cottage at Mississippi lake. First two days we fished walleye/pike/crappie. Saturday we successfully fished bass. great weather. Still learning new techniques for plastics and applying them for bass.

Have continued success!

I thought white lake wasn't in division 18? I thought it opened next weekend?

Saturday was a non fishing day day for me. There was a fundraiser on the 20th in Cardinal that I went to for a good friend that is in a battle with ALS.

We were also watching Russ's 2 girls Friday evening & Saturday so he could go to a cottage with his friends for the opener. Nate as usual was with us too. With the girls here I was requested to be the waffle master for Saturday breakfast.

Sunday was my opener.

With the weather looking not too promising I decided to fish the Rideau River. I managed a few smaller bass on a spinnerbait, but the larger fish came on a pitched creature bait.

Then it rained......

I was chatting with RJ about opener, and I thought that smallies would rule my day... and I was right. Except Paul caught the lion's share of them. Shallow 2 to 6 FOW and most of them TANKS over 4lbs.

It's in FMZ18: http://files.ontario.ca/environment-and ... 198808.pdf
It's on the very boundary, but it's in FMZ18.

My opener didn't happen...

On Saturday we had 7 kids at my fiance's.
My daughter and step-daughter both had a friend over each for my oldest daughter's 12th bday.

Sunday was father's day.
Jimmy was BBQ'ing up a storm! Chicken and steak on the charcoal grill and burgers and dogs on the gas grill. Fed a party of 11!

Sunday night, once the kids were all in bed we had a much deserved glass of wine and dip in the pool....

Opener didn’t happen here either, for the most part…
Someone puked at 4:30am, got a text message at 5am asking to postpone.
We did end up going out later in the afternoon, but to the nearest waterway which is the Ottawa River.
Did manage a few bass, so my urge was satisfied.

P.S. The Ottawa still looks like pure caca water!
If fishin ain't your mission, then you can kiss my Bass!

The bad news is I was away on business for the opener. The good news is I'm in Paris....

Out with my daughter as a fathers day gift. She reads book, I fish. Fair trade with dinner after. Solid afternoon.
Got this one and a few more about the same size. Bunches of smaller bass too. Mainly shallow on small jigs.
