Who's the best in Canada?
I'm interested in who you guys think is the #1 Fishing Personality/Angler in Canada.
Doesn't have to necessarily be someone famous we all know, just throw some names out and let me know who you think is Canada's Number 1 Fishing Personality...
Cheers

When you say "Canada's Number 1 Fishing Personality..." I think of TV Hosts.. Bob/Dave
But when you ask "Who's the best in Canada" That leaves room for discussion..
This is a very confusing topic lolll ... Some many different fish only a few anglers have shows and Dave Mercer focuses on Bass, while Bob has pretty much fished for everything that swims..

Re: Who's the best in Canada?
As soon as I read this, I thought of TV personalities.
For me, the three that popped into my head right away were Big Jim, Dave Mercer and JP Derose.
Jim has done so much for the fishing community, it just isn't funny. Dave is just hilarious to me and I watch his show whenever I can. And JP is just a wealth of knowledge no matter what show he is filming.

Re: Who's the best in Canada?
Sorry to confuse everyone, it isn't like there are rules, just put down whoever is #1 in your view, TV personality or not (you don't have to have a TV show to be an incredible angler.) Some people might think RJ is the best, he doesn't have a show (yet?), but it doesn't rule him out. That guy can flat out fish and his multi-species approach is very impressive.
For what it is worth, I think the Johnston's are currently earning their rep fair and square, but I will still give the top spot to Bobby Izumi, just for his massive coast-to-coast-to-coast appeal and influence over a 30 + year career.
A close second for me is Dave Mercer, who has really created a North American wide audience for himself, and who played a part in my getting back into fishing hardcore. I caught the biggest smallie of my life after watching his episode on how to walk the dog with LiveTarget hard-bodied frogs, so I am partial to him.
Big Jim McLaughlin, Gord Pyzer and Jeff Gustafson round out my top five. Gord Pyzer is a real gem, would love a chance to actually meet him sometime. Dude has probably forgotten more about fishing than I could ever hope to even learn!
I also gotta send some love to the K-Dawg, Karl Kalonka. On a personal note, I had some fishing industry related questions a little while ago and wrote to Karl. He was extremely helpful with his advice and was just really down to earth, and I super-appreciated his time in getting back to me... Plus I love Extreme Angler TV (just wish WFN would stop messing with the show-times of it!)

For the old school generation, best TV personality (Canada wide) is Bob Izumi.
Dave Mercer is a close second (Americanized) and will eventually win over Bob.
If Canada was to have a fishing ambassador, my vote would go to Big Jim.

Re: Who's the best in Canada?
I'm probably biased after this photo-shoot with Big Jim...
That's my girl making the 'crowd-goes-wild' white noise... even had Big Jim cracking up!
Second place would be Dave Mercer

Re: Who's the best in Canada?
Bob Izumi.
But since he doesn't always fish IN Canada, I have to also mention Cyril Chauquet from Wild Catch. Over the last year or so I have really enjoyed his adventures and style.
Pete Bowman is who I would want to spend a day fishing IN Canada with.... Or Moosebunk:-)

Oh damn... so many great options!
I totally forgot about Cyril Chauquet...
... and didn't realize that Moosebunk was on the list.
Changes things a lot!
Wife says either of those ... or else I don't get to go fishing this Friday Night ...

Re: Who's the best in Canada?
I really enjoy watching JP DeRose's show, as I find I learn allot from it and I like his approach.
I think each region also has their own "best". The names listed in this thread would definitely be the top guys out here, but back where I grew up in BC, it's mostly fly and salmon/steelhead guys. Most of those folks don't even have shows, but are well known in the angling community in BC where they guide, teach, get involved in grassroots stuff, etc.
