July 15th fun fish - Taylor Park

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Not yelling Andrew,

Just a little jab! Didn't realize you had prior commitments. And you would not have had to track me down too far. You were fishing a few hundred yards away from me most of the night.

The cooler wheather is what I am blaming. Rick and I had at least triple the bites during the last one. I did explore new waters a bit more though as every year I try and find some new spots.

What really has me going is what in the world was Charles and Nigel throwing to get that big of a bag off three fish? I'll have to ask him at our next tournament.

Hey kerrazy. I was the odd looking boat with all the beautiful bass boats. Had a blast and lost two nice big ones on a buzz bait in the rice. Gotta love big top water boils. One of them had me so deep into the weeds it felt like a huge musky. Gave it a tug to get it out and I lost it.

What would others have done when a bass gets into the slop that thick.

Almonte,

It is situations like that, that made me fall in love with braided line!

I had a fish get buried in a weed ball and I cranked it out slow and steady, like a whinch, the first time I used braided line. I have been hooked ever since.

I am by no means an expert, yet I would have just kept steady pressure on the fish, and kept it coming if possible.
Cyber, and I talked about this in February at the get together. We both are similar in the sense we don't play the fish out, yet just keep winching to get it into the boat. Some guys play with drag and I guess that works, yet I feel as long as you don't yank, it reduces chance of the hook losing its set. Just slow and steady pressure. I don't lose too many. My bigger challenge is getting them on the line in the first place.

Curious to see what others say?

Thanks for having me on your boat Adam, it was a pleasure.

That was the first time I've ever experienced fishing like that and I gotta say it's a lot different than the back woods fishing I mostly do. It's awesome to see all those boats blast off at once! Shooting the breeze with everyone after is almost as good as the fishing its self.

Both thermostats were completely blocked with weeds as was the telltale tube. Water pressure guage hose was blown off at the motor. Pouring cold water all over a hot motor, thus all the steam. Will do a final check on the water tomorrow. Do you know if you write p iss ing as one word on this forum it changes it to pee pee. Got a love institutionally imposed PC.

Paul
Next week we'll have to show up early and play a little before the fishing starts.

Pete try keeping a constant pressure on the fish and use the trolling motor to go get it.
Stuff like that happens, you go to get in there and pull them out by hand.

Good luck!

One of these days I will make it out to one of these events/gatherings.
I live out near Smiths Falls and work in Ottawa so going home to get the boat and coming back in is not ideal. I typically fish (and play) on Big Rideau.
I have to plan it so I bring my boat in with me; I just need to measure the gate here at work to ensure the boat will make it through.
There have been a couple tournaments out of Rideau Ferry where I have spoken to a bunch of guys getting ready to take off .. maybe I have already met a few fellow-fish-hawkers indirectly.
Cheers and good luck to anyone at Renegade (I think it is Renegade) out of Rideau Ferry this weekend!
