Fall walleye fishing around French River

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fall walleye fishing around French River

Post by sheldon1965 »

Hey everyone, I'd like to do a two night/day fishing trip around North Bay and along the French River this Fall for some heavy walleye. Does anyone have any advice for lodges or cottages around there? Much appreciated!

Had a few successful weekends at both Glen Echo & Bear Creek on the south shore - Hunters Bay to Callander Bay area. Both are decent accommodations but Glen Echo has a newer fleet. That said, Bear Creek's old cedar Geislers handle very well in the fall chop, and when the wind is on the fetch of Nip it is a nice insurance policy. Good fishing in both areas in the fall, and if a 50+HP boat is rented, the ~20km trip to the mouth of the French won't take long. Scott, the proprietor at Glen Echo, takes his guiding seriously and always has suggestions and current info on the hot spots.

Zone slot regs changed to 18"+ this year, and those are not that common. Don't expect the pickerel sizes of yore - Nippissing hasn't been re-stocked in many years and is under much pressure, though happy to see this recently: http://www.nugget.ca/2015/08/18/new-chi ... lleye-nets

Hope this helps - it is a beautiful time of year up there!

I have stayed at Glen Echo a bit more than a few years ago, always a good time. From reading and talking to a few people I agree with WhitESOX if you are looking for BIG eyes, good luck not nearly as many around compared to days gone by.

Best of luck.
