-34? No problem!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

-34? No problem!!

Post by qcconnection »

With a forecasted HIGH of -24 (-34 with wind chill) on Saturday, who`s going to be crazy enough to go out?

What`s everyone`s secret to keeping warm on sub -20 days?

I can`t wait to test out my 2,000 gram insulated boots to see how they fair out.

Picked up a sunflower style tank top heater at the beginning of the winter. Looking forward to seeing how that works Sat.

When its cold I don't find the actual cold to be a problem, its the work that comes with the cold that can be a problem! Went out yesterday to ice fish in Quebec and the weather was brutal! We stayed in a heated shack, but all the holes were outside, so we had to clean them and chisel them to keep them open CONSTANTLY! What ended up working was using a hatchet and opening up the holes, that kept them open a lot longer than the chisel on the auger let me tell u! Another valuable tip is when in the extreme cold, DO NOT GET WET! If you dip ur hand on the snow or in the water, dry it immediately on ur jacket, towel or whatever because it will freeze instantly.

Always be prepared especially with bad conditions, never know what is going to happen:

I don't care if its -10 or -30... I still wear the same thing.

Anyone who doesn't go out because of the weather excuse if a namby pamby panty waste.

Seriously.

WIth the clothing they have these days there is no excuse.

I prefer -30 than -2 and lugging an auger around running and gunning across lakes. No sweat and the snow is nowhere near as heavy.

Maybe if I had a brain injury and I was into catching diseased goldfish out of a septic tank or wrangling up a flea circus.

I want BASS!

Too bad my partner molted into a delicate butterfly.

Normally I like to have my lines spread out but I decided to put both inside my pop up. Wise decision. All I can say is it was just NASTY out there today. I actually had to anchor the sides with ropes to keep them from popping in. Despite my heater the holes were freezing up inside my pop up and my feet were suffering. With the lack of snow on the ice you cannot bury the skirt so the wind was coming under the edges.... Even when I scavenged some if just blew away.

I was just getting bites and there was a lot of activity on the sonar but with the wind picking up there was no way I was going to stay out for the evening bite.

Oh well, at least I got out for a bit.
