This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fitzroy provincial park fishing and camping?

Post by catfishcatching101 »

Me and a friend are planning a fishing trip in the near future, we were thinking about Fitzroy provincial park. Does anyone know if there's good fishing and camping there? Cheers

I camped there a couple of times with the kids. There is definitely some interesting fishing potential around there. The beach is great for the kids good size, shallow entry, clean. I am not a fan of the campground though. Very crowded. Unless you reserve a good spot well ahead of time you get a small lot far from the beach. You may have different point of view but I like walking to the beach with the kids. With the camp spots we got we had to load up the car each morning for the beach.

I fished with the kids north of the beach on the little island and there were pannies and perch hitting every couple of minutes between the island and shore. Great for the 4 kids we were with. I saw someone land a small pike in this area.

I saw people fishing the bridge while I was there looking for walleye and bass.

Someone was telling me that early in the spring they launch their boat there and heads to the base of the dam for solid catfish action.

Rumour has it that some spots hold gar.

I really like that campground. We typically reserve spots in the campground away from the remote but larger beach w/ playground - we get spots near the 'smaller' beach which overlooks the hydro dam straight-on. It's very shallow, so kids swimming is perfect. Also, the 'small' beach is still HUGE, and I find it MUCH less crowded than the one off the main camp road.
Fishing for pannies is great on the path between the two beaches. Kids also love to catch crayfish and frogs to play with in the creek. (btw there are a few really nice spots along the small creek, just bring bug spray!).

I used to camp there often. My favourite spot was along carp river. There's a lot of rapids so it acts as good white noise as it can get a little noisy with other campers etc. Don't buy your wood there. It's crap and expensive. There was a guy near the park that was selling woukd that was acceptable to bring to the park. More bang for your buck. I believe it was in galetta but I could be mistaken. I'm not a big fan of provincial park camping anymore but if I were to go back. There is where I we ould
