Walleye Action

Well with a cold start and not much fish action things are starting to warm up and the fish a co-operating to a point. Seems like a lot of bigger fish which I do not really care for as we are looking for eaters in the 16 to 18 in range. Seems most of the fish are on the backside of drop off's with the current going over them and wanting a slow jig presentation with gulp minnow or leech in the 55 ft range. A few fish from the last 2 nights with the bigger ones returned for another day. We did get some nice eaters and man was fresh fish good eating.

Do they release OK from that depth?

Used to fish them in not more than 12ft then came the zebras and water is crystal clear and we had to move deep. Big learning curve but have found that if reeled in slow and then put in livewell with circulator pump running that 99 % survival for released fish and floaters go to the frying pan. I can confirm this as we seldom find a floater at the power dam. They still go shallow at times but mostly close to dark and I am usually backing the boat into the shop by that time.
