I was out today as well and it is starting to get pretty thick. Boated 1 5 lb laker and lost 3 others. Started at 6 am for the
wallys and got a couple hard hits on worm harness but could not bring them in all in 25 to 35 ft. The lakers were on the down riggers at 55 to 65 ft and started to hit around noon hr. All and all a very good day boated a nice laker and the guy who got it
was his first lake trout.

So is it still safe to fish there? Dying to hook into some of those big Muskrat pike and bass!

Also wondering if it's safe to consume fish here ... I've heard of great fishing but is this lake catch and release only?

I eat them and I am not glowing in the dark yet. May have the odd little twitch now and then though.

Anyone know if the lake has cleared yet? Hoping the colder nights have killed off that algae...

Nope. Was there last Friday and while it was better than it was a few weeks earlier, it's still green enough that you can't see down much more than a foot.

Has anybody been on Muskrat since beachburger gave his report. I would like to try it a couple more times if it has cleared up.

Not sure if it has cleared up but I drove by Saturday on my way to Deep River and back on Sunday and both times the launch in Cobden was full and the launch farther out of town toward Pembroke on the creek/river had several empty boat trailers.
So people are fishing just not sure if it has cleared up.

The Renfrew County and District Health Unit advises people using Muskrat Lake to be on the lookout for algae blooms.
