Re: st francis is a nightmare!!!
I'm just a co-angler and only have fished it a handful of times, so keep that in mind with my advice. And I've only fished it in late Aug/Sept/Oct... which has a bearing too I think because of the water temps and depth.
If you have sonar equip look for humps. I find with Franny it daunting as it can seem like you're fishing in the middle of no where but you're actually on a spot This can determine the depth you will find good. But don't be afraid to go deep. Be prepare to fizz your fish. They've more often needed it that not for me on there. Also bringing ice for the live well can be a life saver for hot Franny days.
I love the drop shot on there. And I found that basic colours with some flash worked best (IE: Mossy green with a gold flake).
I had success on soft swimbaits. I stuck to 3 inch ones on pointy nosed Title Shot jig heads to get the bait down rather quickly. There again - natural colours. If you are going to go Primary colours, stick to the dark versions.
Hard jerk baits are also great. If you find flats that are not as deep, running those through there are successful. I did find tho that this could produce frustrating follows and once they saw the boat they would take off like a jet plane, never to be seen again.
And if the water is calm, and not too deep, you can't go wrong with a good ole Wacky rigged worm.
It's not an easy lake, but it's so rewarding. I love it and wish I could fish it more than I do!

Re: st francis is a nightmare!!!
ya maybe im afraid to go deep!
i never go deeper then 20 feet!
the thing is with deeper water is where to start? its so big! even when i look
at the map i dont know where to go first! so stick on flats and drop off
i like to throw a drop shot and a senko so i think thats not my problem,
my biggest problem is to find them, when and where???!!!
anyway i never get discourage, ill get back up, go back there and figure them out!
thanks oneelven for your advice, and if i ever have an empty seat ill let you know!
tight line guys, ill keep you posted on my improvement!

You aren't the first to be puzzled by that place and certainly won't be the last!
Got some insider info tonight for ya, give the Renegade Bass Radio show this weekend! Your question spurned a topic on the show and long time tournament angler Doug Brownridge is a guest and will discuss how he breaks down Lake St. Francis. It truly doesn't get better than that!
