awkward question??????

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My wife doesn't share my passion, but she does understand it. Our anniversary is July 2nd and I have spent many of them in a tournament. The decision to fish tournaments was mine alone, but with her blessing. She also knows that I would never use money that we needed for our day to day. If it came to that I would be out of the tournament scene.

That is my experience but I must admit I have one special kind of lady for a wife.

Yeah,

It was a conversation we both had. I get a few Saturdays a summer and she gets a few in the winter to do whatever she wants.

But I definitely did not just sign up and tell her.

Hello,

I just usually read on here but on this point I have some input

A friend of mine whom I grew up with and myself were forever fishing---we fished my first couple tourneys together

Anyway life went on---I got married and had kids---he went on and did extremely well on the GM Pro Bass Trail (Some years ago)
like 2x bass angler of the year and 2x classic winner well

I won't name drop here

Anyway he walked away at a point because of what he was missing---his kids childhood memories could not be replaced

He told me----"Either I'm pre-fishing or fishing---and being constantly on the road is not cheap"

So now he picks a tourney here and there---usually one day deals---I've done the same.

Hope this helps

Unless you hit the top 3---it's likely gonna cost you ---with tourneys typically being top heavy

Always ask the wife and with her backing you on your fishing it will make you enjoy the fishing a lot better as well as a smile when you get home.

I might add that my kids were grown and gone when I got into tournaments.

I've been fishing tournament for 7-8 years until this season when my wife asked me not to because of kids getting older and the cost was also a factor, not paying for daycare only one income put a hrutin on fishing. So having the convo with the wife is always best and its all about give and take.

Here's reality. It's a hobby. If she is ok with your hobby taking you from the house most weekends and costing you waaay more than you get back in 90% of cases then she's a keeper...

I'd suggest joining a Club first to get her used to you being gone on weekend days fairly regularly then drop the expenses bomb on her after she's used to that after a couple seasons....Just tryin' to help.
