Honouring my father at Megabucks

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Honouring my father at Megabucks

Post by TheMaverick »

As I sit here, trying to compose and structure my thoughts, so that words could somewhat explain both gratitude and recognition, I can’t help but feel melancholic at the same time.

As some of you might already know, my father passed away on October 1st, and one of his requests was that I fish MegaBucks regardless of the outcome.

I honored my father this pass Saturday by fishing the event.
I knew it would be somewhat of a heavy burden, and although it was harder than I anticipated, the fishing community has a way of alleviating the strain of such a difficult loss.

My father had always said, we’re a tight knit community, one that always supports each no matter what.
That being said, the meaning of his words significantly rendered this pass Saturday at the MegaBucks event.
Whether it be through offering condolences, to sharing a story, or simply navigating in between boats as a flash of remembrance filled the crisp morning air.

At days end, I dropped a pinch of my father’s ashes in Big Rideau Lake, it was one of his favorite lakes to fish, and it only felt right that I do.

As we made our way on shore, distribution of prizes was to begin.
I was honestly expecting a few words in regards to my father’s passing, but the staggering gesture that came next was overwhelming in a way I had never experienced before…

RJ & Birdee came up with the idea of honouring Francois Dufour with a memorial plaque that exemplifies exceptional dedication and support of competitive angling in Eastern Ontario.
The fishing community has always been one who’s bound by strong relationships, those said relationships, have been fortified in way words cannot describe, for that I thank you both.

As the moon rose on the horizon, I know he was looking down in genuine admiration to every single one of you.

Mverick,

I couldn't imagine the emotions going through your mind that day. Condolences again, and hats off to you for showing up and cashing in.

Also hats off to Rob and Kim. That was a stand up move and something Maverick and his young lad will get to see every year.

Great write up during tough times Maverick.

Hands down the best featured report to date!

This highlights not only what the fishing community is about, but what the fish-hawk.net community is about. A lot of guys met your dad through this site, whether it be in person or just "virtually".

Mav,

I've never met you, and I unfortunately didn't have the pleasure of ever meeting your father, but it's clear from the outpouring of support that both of you have been great contributors to this site, and to the fishing community in general. For that I thank you. Take care.

Frank was a great guy. He was a big supporter of our Megabucks event and all competitive fishing in Eastern Ontario. I'll never forget him telling me to have a Megabucks event every weekend...

He will live on in many ways but this is a small one we came up with that we will give away every October at Megabucks.

This years winners were Dan and DJ Faubert.

I remember meeting you and your dad a few years ago Mav.

I bought an iRod and a Dobyns off of you. Your dad seemed like a pretty cool cat. Very nice man.

Must've been real tough for ya to get through the day but what a great gesture by RJ 'n Birdee to honour your dad. Keep on fishing Mav.

Pretty awesome! Frank is well deserving of this.
I should really try a tournament one of these days, looks like a good one.
