Who's Excited for Ice Fishing?!!..

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Who's Excited for Ice Fishing?!!..

Post by Oneeleven »

This girl! :banana-angel:

I remember when Marty first told me he was going to take me ice fishing. My response? "I'll try it but I'm sure that I will never like it as much as open water fishing and I'll never buy my own gear or anything....."

Like that lasted long!

And I didn't start off with a bang either. I went 3 long weekends in a row, fishing for the whole day, Saturday and Sunday. No fish.

But there's something about ice fishing that sucks you in. That keeps you coming back for more. There's what I like to call the 'cozy' factor. You get that same feeling as when you're a kid and you build a fort. Your own little spot in the world. Whether on foot or 'Mobile, you trudge through ice and snow, and stake your claim. The sound of the auger breaking through the ice to hit the water below. Drilling holes here and there till you find that 'perfect' one. Once you've put up your tent, you feel so accomplished. It's a bit of work but worth it. The sensation of hearing the wind whipping past your tent, snow pelting the window, when you're snug as a bug, dressed only in a T-shirt and snow pants, comfy in your 'fort', with the glow of your heater and the colours of your flasher lighting up the tent walls. You might get up and explore. Walking around drilling holes and finding fish. But you’ll always have the home-base to come back to.

Thought I would share a couple of my favorite moments from last year. Please do the same! Help us bide the time we have till the water freezes over!

Seeing my favorite furry friends again!

Hey I know that dog lol! I know Hunter can't wait for ice fishin' but I've still got a few weeks left in the boat. Don't know how often we'll get out this winter with my first born due in January but I'm sure we'll see ya out there this year!

Nice write up too, describes the feeling pretty well. All I used to do is build forts as a kid and now that you put it that way, no wonder I love ice fishin so much. Good luck this year Tia and see ya out there!!!

Oh to be healthy again!!! My last Winter of ice fishing before my health issues started I spent 240 hours on the ice. Then my time dropped dramatically. Last year I didn't even step on the ice, 2 years ago I got out twice. :( :(.

I used to enjoy fishing out of an 8" hole more than fishing out of my boat.

Hopefully I can get out a few times this Winter, if I only get out once it'll be at RJ's Panfish Derby, haven't missed that one yet.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

The question asks... Who's excited for ice fishing?

I think to myself, not me! Not really. Not yet!

Then I read your post Tia and by the end I'm like... damn girl, kinda excited now!

Besides the points you made, couple things I like about ice fishing especially can be the extra exercise and the homework. 8) Ohhh, and setting hooks into big lakers too.

Be a nice change from last year. The ice was sketchy last year!

Thanks for posting this Tia,
I had run out of books to read and then read this post.
So I pulled out Tim Allard's book, " Ice Fishing, The Ultimate Guide" and started reading it again.
Read this book and it really gets you primed for ice fishing !!!
