Shirleys bay Ice

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hey Scarkner, we are setting up on Sat, we could give your hut a tow out with a sled if that would help out? Im hoping we have our hut assembled and towed out between 2-3.

Let me know, CCLad.

I could not wait any longer so I went out to test the early bite and my repaired arm for the first time.

YIKES... Not a bite in 2 hours but the WIND! I was solo and did not use my popup since there was no way I could do it by myself in that weather. Big "snow devils" moving down the bay and major gusts.

That being said, despite the lack of fish (I might go back at 2 if the wind calms down) it was great to get out. I cannot believe I did not buy a drill attachment for my auger earlier. Super effective with my 8 inch fin-bore. Must admit the blades bite a little too much and in really thick ice that might be an issue (scarkner posted on the merits of the Nils in that respect) but for now it was heaven.

Three other groups spread out with popups and someone in the one lonesome shack but dont know if there was bite elsewhere.

Hey Peron, wow good on you for braving the elements! The wind is howling! That said, the bite there is best about an hour before sunset to around an hour and a half after. Good luck if you head back out - Keep warm!

Just checking in to see if there were any updates on Shirley's Bay and this is all good news...and I have 4 days off next week! :P Guess I will fire up the auger tomorrow and get the gear ready now that deer season has ended, effective today.

I know we read and hear this all the time, but stay safe out there, folks. It's not worth taking any chances. It's really not.

Tight lines and a safe season to everybody!

Cheers and Happy New Year!!

A nice day for fishing. Lots of shacks out there now!

If anybody comes across a pair of black sunglasses please send me a message. Seemed to have fallen off my head on my walk out of the bay.

Thanks and happy fishing!

Anyone been having much luck out at Shirley's Bay this winter?

Thinking of taking my girls (11,9,6) out there this Friday for some ice fishing, but I have never fished that area. Any suggestions, pointers would be great.

Head out to where most of the huts are situated - fish 8- 11 feet of water. Have everything set up an hour before dark, you should get some action.

Hit the ice with my son on Monday, Jan. 2nd. Beautiful day on the hardwater but no fish hit the ice. We fished without minnows as Manotick Bait was out when I called them and they were waiting for their shipment to arrive.
Sadly, we left just at primetime, as hunger overcame the urge to keep fishing.
Will be back at it this weekend!
Tight lines, folks!

Anyone out on the Bay this morning?

At -20C we should be adding 1-2 inches a day, even with the snow-load.

I am wondering if we are at safe driving levels (I like 12 inches) yet?

Was out yesterday. Where my hut is there's 6-7 inches of solid black ice with 2 inches of white on the top. I wouldn't drive out yet!
& 3 small walleye and a perch.... Wasn't great fishing....

Aren't you out in some current Tim? There were posts with 10"+ over a week ago.

Ice at the shacks was 14 inches today. Several people, including me, out with cars and trucks. One guy with a jeep went waaaaayyyyy out past all the shacks, was surprised when he didn't stop.
