Looking for Rideau river advice

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Looking for Rideau river advice

Post by Moobe »

Hey everyone.

I'm looking to get my daughter (6) out of the bluegills and into bass and walleye even a good pike or two. It'll be our first full year in our boat and not fishing from shore. Looking to peg down a few good spots. Any recommendations are welcome. We will be predominantly fishing the Rideau from pirate cove as home base. Counting down til 2nd weekend in may!!!!!!!

Thanks

There are plenty of panfish in front of pirate cove and within the mouth of the kemptville creek. If your lucky, you can tie into pretty much everything on your list in those spots.

Any part of that section of river has bass, walleye and pike. It is a weedy section, so rig accordingly. If your daughter can reel in quick enough to keep a spinnerbait along the weedtops, that's a good bet. Otherwise use a weedless spoon or plastic creature texas style. That way she can cast out and reel in at her own pace. Good luck.

in early season on the Rideau look for anything that flows into the river. the water flowing in will be a bit warmer and the walleye will be there.
