Anyone fished Findlay Creek?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Post by topten14 »

Just wondering if anybody fished Findlay Creek.
I know it's stocked with brown trout.
Where is the best location to go.

Best access points are on Blais Rd. I have no idea what the fishing is like there now though...... there's been a lot of construction in the area. I used to fish it a lot in the 80's, they stocked it with 'bows and brookies then.
I'm a goin' fishin', mama's goin' fishin' and my baby's goin fishin' too.

Haven't fished Findlay Creek (or Poole or Shields creeks) for 15+ years, but when I did it was the section between Blais Road and Hawthorne Road. Your best bet would be to email one of the Kemptville District MNR Fish & Wildlife Technical Specialists (http://www.infogo.gov.on.ca/infogo/#orgProfile/1395/en) and ask them which section of the creek is currently being stocked, as well as which month. Wouldn't want to try fishing the creek in May if the browns are being stocked in June!

Tried it a couple of weeks ago beside the fields beside blais road, saw a dead sucker and caught some shiners, nothing too special although it looked like parts of the creek were suitable for browns. Curious about the section between blais and hawthorne but not sure if it's worth the effort to walk. Pretty sure i saw a couple 6-8 inch browns last year around early june, anyone know what size they are stocked at? Saw a crap ton of tiny bass 3-4 inches as well as a 1 pounder in the creek later in the summer so that certainly does not help their survival rates.

P.S. Anyone who walks the creek feel free to chip in on picking up any amount of garbage, its pretty sad to see a creek with potential being polluted and developed so heavily and still being stocked.

i can remember one day in particular when i happened to be walking by with my dog on Blais side road(i lived on #31 just up from there at the time), and i saw some one pull over and throw some tires into the creek. as i was nearing closer this pick up truck flew up and two guys jumped out and threw the guy in the creek and told him he's not coming out unless every tire he threw in is with him   :D that day made me believe in angels. Was that part of the creek productive back in the day? I'm very curious to try it out

Sorry for the late reply; I just got back from a weekend trip to Algonquin Park. I managed to catch a few brown trout during a couple of visits 15+ years ago in September in the 6 to 8 inch range in that stretch of the creek using a Parachute Adams on the fly rod as well as a metallic bead head micro-jig with black fuzzy body on the ultralite spinning rod. I only committed myself to try fishing the stream after talking to the Kemptville District MNR stocking specialist in person (back when you could actually do that), after he showed me photos of a successful post-stocking electrofishing survey.
