Favorite Walleye Lure

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Favorite Walleye Lure

Post by Yunan »

Not a big fan of live bait. I usually have my luck on a plain and simple grub and jig head. But I tend to give plenty of them tot he rocks on one outing. My secret weapon is a blue and white rapala xrap, the suspending one. What's your secret walleye hunting lure.

I guess it really depends on the time of year, water temp and body of water but to summarize on the two main bodies I fish:
Ottawa River - Med CC big O sunfish - white or chartreuse.
Bay of Quinte: CC Shad yellow blue, yellow orange, silver blue.

Looking forward to getting out!

Funny you should ask as I was just talking with Skarkner getting some pictures out together and drafted a reply. I haven't sent it yet as Im sure the NCC is a little busy these days with the water levels! I'll probably wait until around June and write them back. Below was their response from my original letter:

Mr. Power,
This is a follow up on your request CC-133614-C4T7D9 - 'Shirley's bay water access', created on 2017/03/08 11:24 AM.
Thank you for contacting the National Capital Commission (NCC) and for sharing your comments with us. We apologize for the delay in responding to your email.
In response to your correspondence, we wish to inform you that our land management team assessed the area on March 10th and determined that there were no issues with access to the ice with a vehicle. The issue at that point was that the ice had melted along the shoreline creating a section that was probably not passable by a vehicle without sinking through. This was consistent along the shoreline and not just at the launch. Moving the boulders would not have solved the problem. During the site visit, there was only one shack left and with the cold last weekend we hope that the water along the shore froze enough to pass with a vehicle in order to safely remove the shack.
Please note that the area has been delimitated with boulders in order to avoid damage to the grass and other assets as well as to stop vehicles from going near the shoreline.
Kind regards,
Caroline

I've got a couple I'll share with you.
Like to fish a Shakey head jig with a Reaction Innovations l'll Skinny Dipper bait hooked on.
Secondly go back to my Jerk baits any of which imitate local waters bait fish, could be a Live target Perch shallow diver, Lucky Craft pointer, or the Dowzvido jerk bait.
All the pre mentioned baits work well for me. Just have to find right conditions. Little wind, works wonders.
If times are slow, will get the ol Dropshot rod out, this teases the eyes into action.
have been known to also work a little magic with a jighead and grub, the old standby

In the BOQ, the Uzick Spinner has been catching fish for 30 years - can't beat that. Good until the water drops below 50 degs F.

For season to be open? It's open everywhere but FMZ 15.

Hottest bait by far in the Lund this year has been the Jackall Rhythm Wave on a 1/2 oz Jighead.
