For many, the May 2-4 weekend is the start of cottage season. For our family, it is no different with the exception of my father living there year around. We just head up more between May and the end of September.
We had the family packed and ready to head up Friday night. And after a stop to pick up some pencil weights, we were at the cottage by 8:00pm and got to watch the game with a couple of cousins who were down from Toronto. Saturday wasn't the nicest during the day so we headed into town to pick up some more tackle as we were planning on fishing with quite a few others the following day. After getting back and eating, the wind died down and the kids wanted to go fishing so we putted out a bit and set the lines. It didnt take like long for those Lancaster Perch to start biting.
Conner was the first on the board with the smallest fish we saw all night.
Not long after my daughter caught her very first fish. And it was probably the biggest of the night.
I caught a few to start with but for some reason, I didn't bring pliers, or any tackle other than what was on the rods so when my daughter gut hooked 2 in a row, she had no hooks left (I cut them off and threw the fish in the livewell). Since she still wanted to fish, I gave her my rod and realized I should have set up her rod a little different. With my combo, she was able to catch fish but because I had 1/0 drop shot hooks on, she couldn't gut hook them at all. Needless to say, they both had a blast and I think I created a fishing monster in my daughter. Conner and I were fishing the next day with quite a few neighbours and she wasn't impressed she couldn't come. I just didn't see her being able to spend 5 hours in a boat.
Here are some more pics of the two days.
This was coming back with the kids. The joys of boat lifts at the cottage. NO need to take the boat out!
The Sunday with Conner and my father fishing with one of the neighbours.
Me fishing with my cousin, Uncle and another of his friends kids out of dad's boat. That was also our biggest Perch of the day at 11 inches.
All in all, it was a great weekend for fishing. We got home late last night and today I finished spooling up my combos and put all of my stuff in the boat. I am now soooo looking forward to that 3rd Saturday in June!
Tight lines everyone and hope your long weekend was as good as mine!
