What's better than a topwater muskie strike?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

What's better than a topwater muskie strike?

Post by BigC »

Mike landed a nice 45" muskie and we were asking ourselves that very question. Turns out it would only take twelve and a half hours to find the answer....

The answer: When it's your first 50 casting and it's on topwater, that has to be just a little better.

Great couple days on the Ottawa.

Sorry for image sizes. Photobucket wants $400 a year now? Not gonna happen.

Right on man, both of those are beauty fish. Hard to beat a top water bite of any species but a 50+ must have been unreal. Congrats man and keep it up rest of the season!!

Wow! Nice fish! And on top water, thats double bonus!
Went out for the first time this year, and we had 4 -5 follows, but no hook-up.

Do you work your top water fairly fast, or slow or intermittent?

There's a reason people call them heartbreak lures. You're just going to miss your fair share of fish. I've pretty much given up on walk the dog style lures for that reason alone. But Mike uses them all the time. Like any other muskie lure you have to keep changing the speed as you never know what they'll want. That being said this time she hit a lure being reeled in slower than slow. 8)

Good luck and hope you get one next time.
