Challie's Pond question

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Challie's Pond question

Post by mjones »

Hi,

I've heard that there are (or were) trout in Challie's Pond, near Williamsburg. I've tried there a couple of times in the past month, but only caught a perch and a sunfish.

MNR seems to indicate it was stocked regularly up until 2013, but nothing since. Has anyone had any luck there recently?

They do still stock every year. Last year they posted in the Cornwall newspaper when it was stocked and the shoreline was full for 2 weeks with people fishing. Buddy I work with took 16 home in that strectch. After the two weeks the fish were all gone. Probably still the odd one in there, but the pond has some decent smallies in there now.

I have heard of this lake, but not sure where it is. Is there a quarry near it?

If I recall from old 70's stocking lists it used to be called George Challies Public Fishing Quarry. I think...

It is a quarry on Cnty rd 18 just around the corner from me. No trout in it but lots of bass and Pannies. Was there tonight as Grand Daughter loves to fish the pannies and the odd bass. Pretty much a Party place all summer now with the young crowd. When they do stock it there is just a mess of people there lining the shores and they pretty much fish it out in a week or 2
