I know i'm kind of early to ask this kind of question but i already started doing my shopping for this summer. The Whopper Plopper, is it as good as some say it is for bass/pike? They're not cheap,so i would appreciate a bit of feedback before investing on a few different sizes.

Never too early to start shopping for next year......just got a box of goodies from 6th Sense Lure Co.

I'm a member of several fishing boards, there seem to be a bit of a cult following with Whopper Plopper on a board that specializes in River Smallies.

Good luck,
Drop

I’ll have to agree with Drop in this one. Many guys are loving those things. I know if at least one member here who has used and loves them. I have not even considered trying one as I’ve got my true tested top water favourite.

Main thing is that you have confidence in the life to throw it. From what I’ve read, they will put fish in the boat.

I just looked up the price and it seems to be average to slightly above average for a quality lure.

And I’ll agree with above. Start off with 2 and see how you like them. You can always sell them for a bit cheaper if they aren’t what you’re looking for.

Ed’s got them in both sizes at Paddletales. Well, he did on Thursday when I was there.

Just my two cents...They work well. I have the smallest size as well as the medium size. Both are hefty enough for nice long casts and really, apart from varying the type of retrieve (slow and steady or faster with pauses etc etc etc) the bait does most of the work for you, the medium one especially. If you can hear the plop plop plop it's working. I've used it as a search bait along weedlines and found it does the trick enough i just kept it on. I tried it on the Miss and i honestly got annoyed with the pike.... they were nuts over it. They aren't cheap so be smart...well, smarter than me....and check for line abrasions especially with pike...or like me you will be making the slow embarrassing journey to scoop it out of the weeds...like i said the pike were making me nuts. It's not a magic lure or anything but really easy to fish and it works well.

I have a few of all sizes. I prefer the bigger one in black. I’ve had them for 2years now and don’t let the size of the big one fool you, a 12 inch bass will hammer it. Look at it as a buzz bait that you can stop and leave sit for as long as you want.

I've had clients show up with them and want to throw them. They caught em. It's really a downsized Musky bait that stormed the Bass market..
