I'm on Shirley's bay, just moved the hut in, was out 2.4kms. There was still 20 inches of ice (Now on 24 in closer) As long as the temps drop below 0 at night there's some time left. Just wear floaties Gord!
Re: ICE......it WAS nice.....
it's the shoreline access that's getting a bit sketchy.....I'm still going out though. ......but only until the fat lady sinks..... ....that was a good one, by the way!!

They moved rocks to allow access to the east and west side of the ramp now. Much easier to pick a solid spot to access. And ya, I suppose that was kinda funny - But it's apparent that you write your own material!

I'm going this weekend. May not be a bad Idea to bring a ladder or plank to drop over the shoreline.
Re: ICE......it WAS nice.....
Was out at Shirley's yesterday and there is literally 4 feet of ice.

Just back from scouting trip to Carleton Place and the Mississippi.
Water open from Hwy.7 Bridge right down to Appleton.
Picked up my boat launch pass for 2018.
I'll be walter fishing in 2 weeks time from my Lund.
Only problem right now is launch still a little iced in but should disappear shortly.
Let the OPEN WATER SEASON BEGIN.

From ramp to Appleton never really freezes. I bet there's 16 to 18 inches on the lake, maybe more.

Re: ICE......it WAS nice.....
Hey RJ the water is open up to the first bend above the bridge and then another open spot above that.
Did see some massive chunks of ice which have already migrated down river over the wind dam at Appleton
I'm talking blocks of 15 ft x 25 ft about 18 in. thick.
If this stuff dams up could cause very severe flooding.
I think the current which is now moving pretty quick will eat the ice up rapidly.
These mild temps aren't helping the ice stay around and warming up the water, a degree at a time.
Should be some late season walleye to be captured out of cold water.

Re: ICE......it WAS nice.....
Thank you for correcting me on this walleye season. (FMZ18).
I remember at one time both pike and walleye, I thought were open until the end of March, now it's just pike
My Bad.
