Channel cats

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Channel cats

When do the channel cats start biting in the Ottawa, near the bridges/Victoria Island all the way down to the Cumberland Ferry?

The easiest rule of thumb used by some is "when the Dandelions come up"; Many of here beat that by quite a bit.

Last years first catch was "Tue Apr 11, 2017" by Peron. Arpil 15th is my best.

I find the Nation river near the Ottawa is a good spot for early cats.

Last year was warmer but the water was faster.

My guess is everything will be at least two weeks behind this year and that's not a good thing. Walleyes haven't even started yet.

Ottawa River creek mouths around last week of April would be a good start.

Along the Ottawa parkway at Deschene Lookout, during high water, late April till mid May
After the water goes down fishing tends to slow down in that area for cats
