washing the boat

hey does anyone have suggestions on a proven product for washing scum off of a aluminum hull? I used to keep my boat in the driveway and wash it monthly or so but this season it sat in the water for 4 months and has a ring on it that I'd like off before I store. the boat washing stuff I have isn't going to do it. the scum ring isn't too bad actually, I just like it going away clean. I know CT has products specifically for this but I've never had to use one before and don't want to waste 10 bucks if they're no good
