Ice chippers /chisels

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ice chippers /chisels

Post by MarkM »

Hey guys just wondering what everyone is using? I've never bothered to use one as I don't venture off the path but thinking it might be good to have. Might be nice to have to chip away when the holes freeze over rather than using my bent up skimmer.
What about the shorter chisels?

Or just a reason to buy more gear!

A bit pricey, but this would do the job for you. Mind you a cheap hatchet would do the job as well and could be used for firewood too.

I have use a hatchet, but prefer the homemade ice chisel a friend had. He made it from an old steel wood chisel and pipe.

I have always used this, but with a D handle.
I broke the handle last year prying a shack out so I think I'm going to try this handle this year.

I inherited this homemade ice chisel from my grandfather and used it the past 2 days. It's at least 30 years old.
