This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Late summer splake fishing, 2019 edition

Post by Nyarlathotep »

Went to one of the Madawaska/Whitney back lakes this past Saturday. The photos don’t really show it, but the wind was quite strong at times, making it an effort to oar the Sportspal and maintain a consistent troll. My fishing partner and I managed to catch 9 splake that had been stocked in 2018, ranging from 1 to 1 ¾ lbs, before we packed it in for the day. All fish were caught on either a 1/4oz hammered blue chrome Dardevle or a size 3 pattern 330 EGB, baited with bits of cut minnow, and trolled on leadcore with 2 colours let out (we estimate that we caught the fish at a depth of between 15 to 20 feet). We usually don’t catch splake this high up in the water column this time of year, but the lake’s surface water temperature (15°C according to the Humminbird) might have had something to do with it.
