First Trip in my boat for 2021... plus a couple fish!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

First Trip in my boat for 2021... plus a couple fish!!

Post by JimW »

Well the last fishing trip of 2020 in my boat was trolling for lake trout and we did okay, so I figured the first trip in my boat for 2021 we would go laker hunting again.

So up early Sunday morning, Easter Bunny had not even arrived yet. lol. Made a coffee and hit the road, we launched my boat a bit before 7 am and after a nice 10 mile run in the boat we arrived at our fishing spot.

We were not sure what set ups would be the hot ticket, so we brought lots of options with us... downriggers, leadcore, dipsey divers, snap weights...

With just my fishing buddy and I in the boat, we started with a simple 4 rod set up, 2 leadcore rods running spoons, one dipsey diver with a spoon and a second dipsey diver with a spin doctor and Spin-N-Glo. We got our lines set up in deeper water and proceeded to start trolling to our desired spot, not long after ..... fish on and after a little battle we had our first fish in the boat.

This was just the start of things.... over the next hour and a half we catch numerous lake trout, most in the 10-15 pound range. The highlight was our two man triple header.... 2 guys fighting 3 fish, plus trying to steer the boat and net the fish. In the end we landed all three of the fish. :D

The morning proceeded.... catching some fish, losing some fish.... we did have a slow period around 11 am-12 noon, but just before we were packing it in at 1 pm to get home for Easter Dinner, we land 2 more fish and lose a third.

All in all a great day on the water... calm winds, sunny and fishy!!! Plus I got to try out my new Stealth Rod holders they worked like a charm!!!

We even caught 2 small enough to keep for the BBQ!!

Can't wait to get back on the water!!!

Here is a bit of the action from today!!

Great report Jim, thanks for sharing! What a morning for ya! Three fish on, all at once for 2 fishermen is a great problem to have. Amazing that you boated all three...

Yep too many fish is a great problem to have, we even went down to a 3 rod spread instead of 4 for awhile.

I'm surprised by the catch on your fishing trip! It was a very successful boat race because I've never caught such big individuals before. By the way, I was amused by your phrase:'catching some fish, losing some fish'. This phrase perfectly conveys the essence of fishing. Oh, yes, I'll quote you guys! My wife will laugh. She always says something similar when I go fishing. The last time I bought a ticket to Arizona, I went to visit my friend. He has a house by the lake, a boat, and an excellent taste for spices for fish. I had to buy a ticket for https://www.dbauskunft.com/de/, to arrive there. My car was under repair at the time. It was my best weekend with a friend.

Yep... every fishing trip ... I am pretty much... catch some.. lose some... sometimes it is catch a few and lose a lot. lol

And yes lots of big lake trout in the area we were fishing. I will be back out there in the boat in December looking to catch more big ones. :)
