Long Island Locks

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Long Island Locks

Post by Ragehunter »

Hey folks,
Just a heads up, Long Island Locks is not accessible anymore from the traditional parking area down by the RCMP campground. I just happened to be out in Manotick, so swung by to see how many folks were out there and well, none. It's all "Private Property" signs, "No Parking" signs, the old parking area is not plowed out. Only access to there now is from above if you want to walk down the locks and several flights of stairs.
Too bad but this will let the fish come back there again.
I'll never apologize for being a hunter (or a fisherman)!

Was my go to spot up until last year. I’ve seen people parked down there even with all the signage still this year. What I did last year was park on top of the hill near the dumpsters then walk down. Super inconvenient but still accessible.

It is a shame, but this spot needs a break. Use to fish 25 years ago lots of fish, but it got hammered now all you can catch is small I mean small panfish.
Hopefully this will open up again and it will recover a bit.

I do agree, it’s way over fished for the size. However I’ve still caught good size pike and muskey there. I have seen maybe 1 or 2 walleye over the last 3-4 years however.
