trout/salmon Ontario in May/June

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

trout/salmon Ontario in May/June

Post by Tim87 »

I don't know if this is the right place, but I'll give it a try: normally I fish on the Dutch coast for bass and cod, and sometimes inland for pike, or trout in the Belgian Ardennes. I usually fish with lures and spinner baits, I have no experience with fly fishing.

This coming May and June I will be fishing between Montreal and Toronto and also near Algonquin. I'm going to try it on Golden Lake first, but I'm mainly looking for rivers to fish on because this is what I prefer to do. For this trip I would really like to catch a salmon (but I'm not sure if this is the right season) and at least trout. Could you provide me with tips and good locations? Thank you in advance!

Hello,

For salmon in May and June you have to fish one of the Great Lakes in the lake, salmon are only in the rivers late August into late fall. I fish Lake Ontario for salmon in my boat during May and June in a variety of locations. Salmon usually start to show up in the Toronto area in early June, further west in May.

Lots of smaller lakes.... like hundreds... have lake trout or rainbow trout or speckled trout or splake that you could fish for. For rivers any tributary of Lake Ontario or Lake Huron can hold trout in the spring and some smaller rivers hold resident trout year round.

The area you mention covers 2 provinces and a lot of area, so hard to get you specific bodies of water. I believe Golden Lake you mentioned has lake trout, but I have never fished it.

For Ontario you can check out this website it shows all bodies of water in Ontario and lists fish species that can be found, it is a good starting point.
