Ice in the area

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ice in the area

Post by Stevielad9 »

Anyone been out to Constance Lake or Clayton Lake? I'm assuming we are still a ways away from getting on the ice with the warm spell. Getting the itch and hoping I'm wrong.

Also, anyone know if Bayview baits is open? This summer he told me he was closed down for a while.

Thanks!!

Constance Lake is definitely safe. I haven't been to Constance at all since I don't have a lot of confidence in it any more, but I'd bet there's around 8 or more inches on the lake. I was out on Joes Lake yesterday and and we had about about 4-5 inches of cloudy ice and another 4-5 inches of clear ice, so plenty safe to walk on. Joes and Constance are about the same size and depth and they freeze at about the same rate, so Constance is definitely walkable.

I don't know about Clayton Lake since I never fish there, but there's safe ice on a lot of the lakes in the area so if you have a spud bar and other ice safety equipment it might be worth checking.

When I go into fishing talk there is a "new topic" button near the top left.

Hit Constance Lake. A good 6 inches of black ice and a couple white. Fishing was slow but managed a decent pike... most I catch out of there are little guys.

Ah I see now, I'd been in forums instead of fishing talk. Thanks Jim!
