Been a slow ice year for me. Hence the lack of posting but finally got out for a couple decent days of fishing on the st Lawrence. First trip was last Sunday with my buddy Chris. Lots of small perch were caught but the real jumbos weren’t coming through. We weren’t set up until 9 so missed the morning bite.

Even that 0.5x lens couldn’t do it.
We did manage a couple decent pike though.

I had this Friday off work so decided to try again this time I was set up by 7 and it was worth it. Perch were coming through and the larger ones were too.

Didn’t find any real giants but lots of 10-12inchers. I wasn’t keeping any so no big fish haul pictures this time. But action was fast so a through a few bigger ones in a 5 gallon pale with water to take pictures with.

I mostly was using loud jigging baits (small lipless cranks, small hyper rattles) tipped with a small piece of worm. Works good I find and they’re easier than maggots to get.
Bite should only get better and the really large females should be moving in soon. With the way the weather is looking I should get a couple more ice trips in before I can get the boat in.
