The Stanley Cup of Bass Fishing.... The Bassmaster Classic

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The Stanley Cup of Bass Fishing.... The Bassmaster Classic

Post by JimW »

I don't fish for bass as much as I used to and I am not "glued to following" the bass pros, but this weekend is pretty cool and a big weekend for Canadian bass fishing.

There were 4 Canadians, Jeff Gustafson, Cory Johnston, Chris Johnston and young gun Cooper Gallant, completing in this weekend's Bassmaster Classic, the Stanley Cup of bass fishing.

After two tough days of fishing two of the 4 made the top 25 cut to fish on Sunday the third and final day Cory Johnston is sitting in 7th place after two days and Jeff Gustafson is currently leading the pack sitting in FIRST PLACE with one day to go.

I've been watching a lot. It's Gussy's tournament to lose.

Yeah, Gussy is the quintessential Canadian Bass angler. Fishes out of an aluminum boat, when most of the guys on the tour are floating in glass...more often than not, he has a spinning rod in his hand, rather than a baitcaster... he wears his best "dinner jacket" during the tourney...and like most of us north of the border, a really nice guy that's extremely polite..

Pretty awesome! I don't following the tournament scene too much, but I have been subscribed to Jamie Bruce on Youtube for a while now. He's fishing the Bassmaster Open tournaments this year and also has a podcast called "Get the Net". He's had Gustafson on there a couple times and Gallant. His latest podcast was with Bob Izumi: https://youtu.be/ab_FAJ_vtvY

I can't imagine what the ride back to the weigh in was like with only 2 in the well.
