Pink Salmon Trip.... Algoma, ON Looking for Fishing Partner

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Pink Salmon Trip.... Algoma, ON Looking for Fishing Partner

Post by JimW »

Hello,

My fishing partner for my yearly pink salmon trip up to the Algoma, Ontario area had to cancel, so I am looking for a fishing partner for the weekend.

This is a shore fishing trip, I have a half dozen different rivers/creeks I fish from Algoma Mills to North of Sault Ste Marie for the pink salmon. Pink salmon are the smallest of the Pacific salmon species, averaging only a few pounds but fun to catch on light spinning gear, float or fly rod.

I normally leave Friday after work.... drive over night.... fish Saturday.... stay in hotel Saturday night.... fish Sunday morning.... then drive home Sunday afternoon/evening.

We could potentially make it a 3 day trip.... leave Thursday after work.... come back Sunday.

If anyone is interested I can provide more details. I am looking at the weekend of September 23-24.

Here is my report for last year's trip...

Ya I have heard they have been running already, hopefully there will be a few left when I get there.

It was the best Pinkie run in many years up on Superior according to the locals we talked with...most of the tribs between the Soo and Thunder Bay were loaded when we passed through in mid September. We stopped for a day and fished the Nipigon River in our boat (we were headed to fish Eagle Lake for the week). Beyond the Pink and Chinook action, I got a real surprise when this 44" snotty shovel head bit my little Panther Martin spinner....it promptly coughed up a 3lb Pink when we got it in the net.

The biggest Pink runs are always in odd numbered years, so hopefully 2025 will see another big return.
