Ottawa River - Arnprior

The Fishing Map Project comes alive in Hawk Talk. This project features various bodies of water in the province of Ontario, which can be downloaded here, and used to find some potential honey holes.

Ottawa River - Arnprior

Post by Bobber »

Lake Description:
The Ottawa River at Arnprior offers a variety of fishing opportunities in one location. This, however, is one body of water on which you will appreciate your fish finder or sonar as there are numerous deadheads, rocks and reefs. The hazards are not well marked (at all) but if you exercise caution, it's the hazards that make the kind of structure that hold fish - big fish.

Species:
Everything you could want: muskie, pike, walleye and smallmouth. Largemouth and channel cats are common.

Getting There:
From Ottawa take Hwy 17 west until you see the sign for Madawaska Blvd. To get to the launch, follow the Blvd. downtown, cross the bridge and take the next right.

Today, on the west side of the madawaska, on a 25 m stretch of the shoreline south of the marina, I caught 5 smallmouth, largest of which was about 1.5-2 lbs. Time was around 1-3 pm. Cloudy, dam floodgates were closed. I was using a plastic worm - carolina rig.

Heading up to Fitzroy this weekend, will be fishing from shore and renting a canoe. Any tips for good fishing spots?
