Post by Todd B. »

Well hard water season is once again fast approaching (Arrrrgggg!) That being said, I just thought I'd see who might be interested in participating a fly swaps this winter?

Cheers,
Todd

I'm probably in for most of them. Not enough people have my poorly tied flies.

You don't know the smoked montreal nymph?!? You mix the two most productive materials in nymph making... Pheasant and smoke meat! The trout just love the smell and taste of it

I was also tossing around the idea of having a fly tying/swap day since guys have indicated that they are sometimes pressed for time to tie. The idea would be to say spend a Saturday tying as a group at one of the local fly shops.

The advantages would be:
  • all of your swap flies are completed at one sitting
  • everyone receives their flies immediately
  • the store(s) enjoy additional customer traffic in the tyers and spectators (if it is pre-announced)
  • it's a good excuse to get out of the house one day. ;-)

i'd be in to that but i don't want anyone to see my crap-ola vise. it's embarrassing. although it would get my arse into shop to buy a nicer rotary vise. actually, christmas is coming up....

We've done bass flies in the past, though it might be tougher finding enough tyers for pike/muskie patterns.

I'd be in for Pike / Muskie but it may be a little difficult for me to make a tying event in Ottawa. How about we have it here

We can always make the "toothy critter" swap a traditional mail in swap. ;-)
