Line for Son’s Spinning reel?
Re: Line for Son’s Spinning reel?
May as well start with a braid. It's tough, will last several seasons, no problems with twisting. you can cast it a mile. Power Pro 15 - 20 lbs. Some might suggest a flourocarbon leader but that is more advanced.

It all depnds on his skill level. The lighter/finer the line the more knots/birdsnests/windknots and untangling you will have to do. If he is relativly skilled I would suggest a 20lb braid otherwise I would use 10 pound mono. It tangles less, more abbrassion resistant than braid (generally) and easier to tie knots with.
I hate the prespoooled rods at CT with 4 lb test for kids. It's bad enough that it usually has picked up some memory but the stuff tangles on every second cast.
