Motor Stalling when I return the shifter to Neutral
Here goes...
1995 90HP Mercury 2 stroke
Just replaced:
-NGK spark plugs
-hose fuel filter
-engine fuel filter
-fuel hose clamps
-carb needles & gaskets
Stuff I did:
-cleaned fuel tanks & filled with new gas
-performed an engine shampoo to remove dirt & grime
Details about the problem:
-this is not a new problem (was present before & after all the above was done)
-once the motor is at normal operating tempature, I slow down....then put in Neutral...it stalls with a lound PSSSSSS
-it start easy after that
Maybe someone could help with this....
Thanks,
FTL

FTL,
That sound you get soundslike an air leak. If you have not reolaced the gasline/priming bulb you might have a small crack barely visible to the eye. It's cheap to replace and may fix the problem...larry

FTL,
I bet it's the primer bulb.
I went through all that with a 90 merc too 'til a friend in the business mentioned a problem with the stock primer bulbs. Buy the one that says 'Improved Design' on the package or words to the like. It's got a yellow band around one end of the bulb. Got mine at Laurentian but any merc dealer would have it.

FTL, I can't get to that link without creating an account at Mercury, sorry. They sorely need a seach function on their site too.
You can see a picture of it here:

Look for the yellow line around one end.
Definitely that solved my problem. The bulb stays hard almost all day now.

I'm picking one up at lunch today. The link you have has good information.
This is the one I'm picking up:

I picked up the primer bulb yesterday & installed it as suggested in the article (pointing to the sky & close to the motor).
I gave a couple of squeezes, raised the idle & gave it a crank and it started right up. Running smoother than ever. Idled nice and smoother & faster accelerations.
All that is left is to get the carbs synched & tuned.
Thanks for all the help,
FTL
